"To prevent criminals from exploiting the Swedish pension system, the Swedish Pensions Authority's control activities and audits have been strengthened. This has led to higher recoveries and stopped payments, as well as an increased number of police reports in recent years," says Inger Johannisson, an analyst at the Swedish Pensions Authority, in a press release.

Last year, the agency paid out approximately SEK 483 billion to 2.3 million pensioners.

During 2018–2025, the authority reported 1,226 payments totaling SEK 254 million to the police. Of these, 50 led to prosecution and 44 to convictions.
