Half of the cases are considered serious, according to police chief Ahmadreza Radan.
The individuals are suspected, among other things, of having photographed and provided information about targets to Iran's enemy, Israel.
The time frame within which the people were arrested is unclear. However, earlier on Sunday, the state-controlled Fars news agency reported that 20 people had been arrested in the border area with Turkey.
Iran's hardline government has also recently warned that those who demonstrate against the regime will be seen "as the enemy."
