Afghan health authorities say over 200 people have been killed in the attack on a health rehabilitation clinic, specifically targeting drug-addicted patients.

The death toll was confirmed by the spokesman for the Taliban-controlled Afghan Health Ministry, Sharaft Zaman.

Pakistan had earlier on Monday confirmed that it had attacked targets in Kabul and elsewhere in Afghanistan, mainly in the eastern regions. Government officials said the airstrikes targeted military installations and “terrorist targets”, but that no civilian targets had been hit.

Ruling Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid stated earlier on Monday on Platform X that the Pakistani raids targeted a rehabilitation facility and that several people were killed.

But eyewitness accounts suggested that many more victims had been killed. An AFP reporter at the scene said that around 30 bodies had been counted, and that many more victims were being taken to nearby hospitals.

Spokesperson Zaman said that around 3,000 patients were in the rehabilitation clinic, and that it was difficult to calculate the final death toll “as rescue operations are ongoing.”

On Friday, Pakistan attacked Kabul, resulting in several casualties.
