The first to nominate Cecilia Rönn were leading members of the Liberals in Jönköping, but it is still unclear whether she will run.

I am very grateful and honored by the trust and feel great support around the country, but at the same time it is a huge responsibility, so I feel that I have to be allowed to understand the decision before I make up my mind, says Rönn.

The Liberals in Västerbotten are now nominating the member of parliament for the party leadership position, but they are open to voting for other possible challengers, reports SVT.

The future of the party

The decision at the extraordinary national meeting on Sunday is about saying yes or no to Simona Mohamsson, and indirectly it is a vote on her position that the Liberals should be able to sit in a government with the Sweden Democrats.

The Liberals in West Sweden support Mohamsson: "The board first decided whether the union should submit a nomination to the nomination committee. That vote ended 9-5. A majority of the board then decided to nominate Simona Mohamsson. Five members abstained from participating in the decision," writes association chairman Pär Gustafsson in a text message to TT.

The Liberals in Stockholm County, the largest county association in the country, however, have not nominated any candidates.

"We had a board meeting tonight and decided not to nominate anyone at all. The short process we have been put through makes a nomination impossible," writes chairwoman Ylva Mozis to TT.

Rönn had wished that the SD line could have been discussed widely within the party before the party leader put his foot down.

This is about the strategic future of our party, our members and our grassroots, says Cecilia Rönn.

I would have liked us to be able to talk about the factual issue instead of the personal issue, because that's what I think is the most important thing.

Minister not worried

On Thursday at 7 p.m., nominations will be closed at the election committee, but a candidate can also be presented by a representative at the meeting on Sunday.

I am convinced that the party board's line is valid and that Simona Mohamsson will continue to have confidence, says Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson (L), who, like the other ministers from the Liberal Party, has made it clear that they will resign if Mohamsson is not re-elected at the national convention.

From the people I have met and conversations I have had, I feel that there is definitely criticism and that there are those who do not support this, but I feel that there is a larger majority in favor.
