Ludwig Göransson received his third Oscar for the film score of the horror drama "Sinners" - and he paid tribute to his father in his acceptance speech.
"My dad bought his first blues record in 1964," Göransson said from the stage.
Ludwig Göransson has previously talked about how his father, Tomas, got him hooked on blues music - which has now led to him receiving an Oscar for best music for the film "Sinners", directed by Ryan Coogler.
Music teacher
The film is full of blues music, written by Ludwig Göransson. From the stage at the Dolby Theatre, Göransson recounted how his father bought a blues record by John Lee Hooker in 1964.
It was from the other side of the world, a place my dad had never been to and a place he couldn't relate to, but the music changed my dad's life.
The father became a music teacher and inspired his son, who has now received his third Oscar. Göransson has previously been awarded an Oscar for best film score for "Black Panther" in 2018 and "Oppenheimer," as recently as two years ago.
Göransson was seven years old when he got his first guitar.
And it was the guitar that opened doors for me and it was the guitar that took me to the United States and ultimately led me to one of the foremost storytellers of our time - Ryan Coogler.
Ludwig Göransson believes that a film like "Sinners" is important for inspiring young, aspiring musicians.
I think it's very important, because I remember growing up and the movies I saw that were about music. There weren't that many, but they were very important. And I think this movie will inspire many generations of kids and young people who want to get into music to pick up a guitar.
Celebrate with the families
After the Oscars, celebrations await in Los Angeles later on with both his real family and his film family.
I'm going to celebrate with my family from Sweden, who are here, but also with my family that I work with. I've worked with Ryan (Coogler) for 16 years and with Michael B. Jordan in five films. Being together right now is very special.
But there was no Oscar for best song. Göransson was nominated for his song "I lied to you" written with Raphael Saadiq, from "Sinners". But the award went to "K-pop: Demonjägarna" and the song "Golden".
Ludwig Göransson from Linköping moved to the US 20 years ago and has become one of the most sought-after songwriters in the Hollywood film industry. Later this summer he will be responsible for the music for "The Mandalorian and Grogu" and "Odyssey" by Christopher Nolan.

Three of Ingmar Bergman's films ("The Virgin Mary", "As in a Mirror" and "Fanny & Alexander") have received an Oscar for best international film, but they do not go to the director but to the country, that is, Sweden, the Film Academy's archivist tells TT.
Bergman, however, received the honorary Irving Thalberg Award in 1970.
