One of Sweden's match heroes against Poland was Gustaf Lagerbielke, who scored the 2-1 header and sprayed champagne on Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. It happened when the Prime Minister came down from the stands to congratulate the national team on their 3-2 victory and the World Cup qualification it secured.
"He gave a speech and then he opened his champagne and I was there. He sprayed it in a more neutral place and I sprayed a little on him," Lagerbielke admits.
Kristersson doesn't have to worry about any dry-cleaning bills from the government office.
"He just apologized. But I said, 'I don't actually need that apology.' I like to be a little soaked in champagne afterwards. This is great fun, so many of us have wanted this," Kristersson said.
However, the national team was allowed to continue the party without the Prime Minister.
"I have other things to do tomorrow, so I'll have to sniff my champagne-sprayed suit pants instead."
