The announcement of the reinforcement comes after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and various ministers earlier this week made statements about expanding Israel's "buffer zone" in southern Lebanon.
It is unclear exactly how many soldiers are involved, but the number is likely several thousand. The soldiers in question are being moved from the Gaza Strip.
"The advanced defensive zone that we are creating requires additional forces," military spokeswoman Effie Defrin said on Israeli television, according to AFP.
In parallel, the Israeli military says two soldiers have been killed in the past 24 hours. Several soldiers have also been injured in the two separate incidents. In total, four soldiers have been killed since Israel escalated its military operations in Lebanon in early March.
A civilian has been killed and three others injured in an attack from Lebanon on the northern Israeli city of Nahariya, Israeli media reports. The projectile was reportedly fired by the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement. It hit a parking lot in a residential area, The Times of Israel reports.
In total, over 1,100 people have been killed and over 3,200 injured in Israeli attacks on Lebanon in recent weeks.
