Åhman and Hellvig defeated the Brazilian pair, Adelmo Folha and Mateus Dultra, in the round of 16. The match was won in two straight sets (21–11, 21–12), and the home duo never came close to threatening the Swedes.
Things were tougher for World Championship runners-up Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson. The Swedes lost in straight sets, 0–2 (17–21, 18–21), to the Austrian pair Philipp Waller and Moritz Pristauz-Telsnigg.
The quarterfinals will be played later Saturday afternoon, Brazilian time.
Olympic and World Championship gold medalists Åhman and Hellvig will meet Elouan Chouikh and Joadel Gardoque of France, starting around 11 p.m. local time in Sweden.
