Three densely populated neighborhoods in the heart of Beirut were attacked on Wednesday, according to AFP's correspondent in the capital.

In Bashoura, an entire building was demolished early in the morning.

Later, the Zuqaq al-Blat area was attacked on two separate occasions, while two more attacks targeted apartments in the Basta area.

Among the dead was Mohammad Sherri, who headed Hezbollah's political television program on the al-Manar channel. Lebanon's information minister said in a statement that attacks on media workers "constitute a flagrant violation of international law."

Earlier in the war, Israel had mainly targeted southern Lebanon and Beirut's southern suburbs, where Iran-backed Hezbollah has strongholds. The attacks on Wednesday morning, however, hit the central areas.

Today, Beirut is no different from the southern suburbs, said rescue leader Neshat Berri.

A resident in the affected areas said there are no safe areas.

May God protect us.

Since the war between Hezbollah and Israel broke out on March 2, 968 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon, the country's health ministry said on Wednesday. The dead include 77 women, 116 children and 40 health workers.

In addition to those killed, 2,432 people have been injured, according to the ministry.
