Skipper Niklas Edin has led Sweden to seven World Cup gold medals, but when the team was supposed to defend its Olympic gold medal in Cortina in February, it finished in a disastrous ninth place out of ten teams.

When the World Cup kicked off in Ogden, Utah, on Friday night, local time in Sweden, Sweden secured a dramatic victory over Scotland. The Scots threw their final stone too late, so it was ruled out and Sweden won 6–5.

In the second match against Italy on Saturday, Sweden won relatively comfortably 9–4 after scoring four points in the ninth end.

Late on Saturday, Sweden recorded a third World Cup victory, defeating China 9–2.
