The shooting occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The boy, who was about 15 years old, was taken to hospital by ambulance, but his life could not be saved.
Two teenagers, a 15-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested shortly after the shooting and have been held on suspicion of murder and aggravated weapons offenses.
"We assess that the suspected perpetrators are not from the area. That is something we are investigating. But there are no people we know from here, anyway," says Jimmy Arkenheim, who is the local police chief in Rosengård.
Lived in the area
It is too early to say what could be behind the shooting, according to Jimmy Arkenheim. According to the police, the boy who was shot was neither convicted nor suspected of any crimes.
The boy lived in this area. He's someone we knew a little bit about and talked to. But he's not someone we would describe as a criminal, not that we know of anyway.
The boy is described by other residents here as an ordinary guy.
“Creating concern”
During the night, a 35-year-old man was also arrested and detained, suspected of being an accessory to murder.
"We are just at the beginning of the investigation. But of course we will look into whether there are connections to others who may be involved in this incident," says prosecutor Anna Asklöf.
In recent days, five shootings have occurred in southern Sweden, four of which were fatal.
On Saturday, a man in his 20s was shot dead in Örebro, and on Monday, a man aged 17-18 was shot in Huddinge outside Stockholm. He later died from his injuries.
On Thursday, the police announced that an 18-year-old man, who was shot on a bus in Tyresö outside Stockholm on Wednesday, had also died.
The shooting in Rosengård comes after a relatively quiet period in the area, according to Jimmy Arkenheim.
I still think that things have gotten much better in recent years, so this is obviously a major setback, he says.
We will work very, very hard on this. It is important to us, not least because these are such young people.
