The fire spread quickly in the building of one of Sweden's largest egg producers. The fire service worked to prevent it from spreading to other buildings, and by 8 a.m. the fire was deemed under control.
The building, a so-called 'ship', housed 90,000 chickens. With Easter just around the corner, the timing could hardly have been worse, says Marie Lönneskog Hogstadius.
"This is very sad," she says.
During Easter week, Swedes increase their egg consumption by 50 percent. However, Marie Lönneskog Hogstadius believes that this will not have too much of an impact in stores.
"It's always difficult to deliver in full for Easter. Everyone will probably get the eggs they want, but maybe not always the kind they usually choose," she says.
The cause of last night's fire is unclear. No injuries were reported. The police have opened an arson investigation to determine whether a technical fault is to blame or whether the fire was deliberately set.
