The man was found shot outdoors late Saturday night. He was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead, according to police.
"People in the area heard several shots and called us during the night," says Gabriel Henning at the police press service.
TT has spoken to a person who lives in the area and who witnessed part of the incident.
"I had gone to bed when I heard three loud bangs. At first I thought it was fireworks. After the third bang I got up and looked outside," the witness says.
"I saw two people running away in different directions and a third person lying on the ground. That's when I called the police."
Uneasy mood
The witness says that the day after the murder there is an uneasy atmosphere in the area and several people feel afraid.
The motive behind the shooting is unknown and no one has been arrested for the crime. So far, there has been no evidence to suggest that the deceased, or the incident, is connected to gang crime.
"We find no connection to organized crime, network connections or gang-related crime," police spokesman Anders Dahlman told TT on Sunday afternoon.
“Incredibly difficult moment”
According to Nerikes Allehanda, the man was an active football player for a club in Örebro.
"Our thoughts and all our warmth go first and foremost to the family and loved ones. It is an unimaginably difficult time, and the sadness is great in our entire association. We mourn a very nice and talented guy," a representative for the club wrote to TT.
"What has happened touches us deeply, and we feel great sadness and despair over the senseless violence behind it."
The club's office is open on Sunday and has activated crisis support for the members of the association.
