"When (US President) Trump has explicitly said that he cannot guarantee the safety of the Iranian national team, we will obviously not travel to the US," wrote Mehdi Taj on the Iranian Embassy in Mexico's X account.
A FIFA spokesperson said that the federation is in continuous contact with all national associations that have qualified national teams and that it looks forward to the tournament being played according to the "match schedule that was made public on December 6, 2025."
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Tuesday that the country is willing to host Iran's matches if that is the case.
Iran is scheduled to face New Zealand and Belgium in Los Angeles, as well as Egypt in Seattle.
