Cecilia Rönn is the party's economic policy spokesperson and has been seen by many within L as the main possible counter-candidate ahead of Sunday's extraordinary national meeting.

She announced her refusal in a Facebook post.

"In the situation the party is now in, my focus is to be clear about the matter and values - not to make this a question of my own candidacy and contribute to further division. Therefore, I will not stand as a counter-candidate to the party leader," she wrote.

Changed line

A week ago, Simona Mohamsson announced that she had changed her position and that the Liberals would allow the Sweden Democrats into government, something that has stirred up emotions within L. The decision at the extraordinary national meeting is about saying yes or no to Mohamsson and, in practice, the SD swing.

After Rönn said no, however, the question is whether anyone will challenge the party leader.

As far as I know, there is currently no other opposing candidate for Sunday, says Ina Lindström Skandevall, a party board member from Sundsvall.

She was one of eight who voted no to the new SD line at the fateful party board meeting last Friday.

“Unanimous” decision?

Now she is critical of the arrangement, which she believes is rigged so that Mohamsson will be voted through "unanimously".

If the negotiation process is the same as when Simona was elected, there is no possibility of holding a vote and voting no. There is also no possibility of making an explanation of vote or reservation, but the only option is to say yes to Simona.

Since the SD announcement, several well-known representatives of the Liberals have announced that they intend to leave the party.

Cecilia Rönn announced that she will leave national politics this fall.

"I also want to confirm that I will not be running in the 2026 election," she wrote on Facebook.
