The stoppage came at 3:44 p.m. local time in Sweden and affects trading in, among other things, aluminum, copper and zinc. According to a text on the exchange's website, the electronic trading platform is experiencing technical problems.
A spokesperson for the exchange says brokers can still trade via telephone and electronic messages.
During the evening, the exchange is working to restore normal trading by transferring the system to another server. In the meantime, pricing is being done using a backup method.
The interruption comes during a volatile time for metals as the war in Iran disrupts the flows of industrial metals and makes both short- and long-term price developments more uncertain.
