Israel earlier on Monday warned residents of southern Beirut, a known stronghold of the Hezbollah militia, of impending attacks.

The target was a facility used by Hezbollah, and three members were killed and three were seriously injured, a source said after the attack.

According to previous Israel-Lebanon agreements, the Lebanese army is to take over security responsibility from the well-armed Hezbollah militia in southern Lebanon. But this arrangement has been difficult to implement.

Lebanese army soldier killed

Now the Lebanese army confirms that it too, for the first time in the current war, has been attacked by Israel. One soldier is said to have lost his life and at least five have been injured.

The Israeli military also reported losses. One soldier was reportedly killed in fighting in southern Lebanon on Sunday, bringing the total to six dead.

The UN force UNIFIL was also hit in Monday's attacks. In a post on X, the organization wrote that two employees were killed.

"A third peacekeeper was seriously injured and a fourth was also injured," UNIFIL added in the post, stating that an investigation has been launched.

On Sunday, an Indonesian peacekeeper was killed and a colleague was seriously injured when "a projectile exploded in southern Lebanon."

In place since the 1970s

UNIFIL has been in place in the area since 1978. Many countries, including Sweden, have contributed to the force over the years.

Lebanon-based, Iran-allied Hezbollah attacked Israel on March 2, in retaliation for Israel and the United States' attack on Iran on February 28. This drew Lebanon into the war.

Since then, more than a million people have been forced to flee their homes in Lebanon. More than 1,200 people have been killed and over 3,500 injured in Israeli attacks, according to authorities.
