On September 2nd, the doorbell rang at the family's home in Malmö.
Even before that, I had a conversation with the Security Service where they asked me to be careful, so I had it in the back of my mind, says Arvin Khoshnood.
Three boys, two of whom were 16 years old at the time and one 17, are now charged with attempted murder. Two more boys of about the same age are charged as accessories after the incident.
Those same boys are also charged with involvement in a shooting in Uddevalla on September 10, when one person was shot but survived. Apart from the perpetrators involved, the events are not connected, says prosecutor Per-Erik Rinsell.
It is likely different networks. The network in question in Uddevalla is Foxtrot, as we understand it. It is probably not Foxtrot when it comes to the incident in Malmö, but we cannot say that for sure.
Säpo has previously confirmed that criminal networks in Sweden are acting on behalf of Iran.
Prosecutor: Not clarified
Arvin Khosnood, who was born in Iran and fled with his parents in the 1980s, says he has been one of the few who has contributed a critical analysis of Iran - and believes that he is therefore a voice that the regime wants to silence.
"I have spent many years of my life examining and studying the regime in Iran - their domestic and foreign policies, but mainly their intelligence activities, security organizations and operations abroad," he says.
The person behind the attempted murder is still unclear, according to the prosecutor. Police have identified a user account on the Signal app that is believed to be involved and are working to investigate who is behind it.
"We have no idea at all whether it is linked to any kind of foreign power," says Per-Erik Rinsell.
"I can neither rule it out, confirm it nor deny it, because we don't know."
Lives hidden
Arvin Khoshnood and his family left their house the same night the attempted murder occurred, and have since lived in secret. It has affected everyday life "hugely," he says. At the same time, Khoshnood adds, he is happy to be alive.
Not all Iranians have been able to survive the regime's terrorist operations over the years. I have Sweden to help me and protect me, not everyone has been that lucky.
Corrected version: In a previous version, the wrong number of people charged with attempted murder was stated.
