Trump said that great progress is being made and wrote that he believes an agreement will be reached soon, according to a post on Truth Social.

But if this does not happen and if Iran does not immediately open the Strait of Hormuz, the US will end its "stay" there by "blow up and completely obliterate all their power plants, oil wells and the island of Kharg (and likely all desalination plants)," he warned.

He wrote that these have intentionally "remained untouched" until now. If they are attacked, it would be in retaliation for the "slaughter" of soldiers and others committed by the old regime during 47 years of terror, the president claims.

The move comes just hours after Trump said in an interview that he wants the US to "take over" Iran's oil. He said the US could seize the Iranian island of Kharg, from where most of the oil is exported.

"I don't think they have any defense," he told the Financial Times, adding that an invasion of the island would be "very easy."

The island of Kharg, in the northern Persian Gulf, has been singled out as a possible target for an American invasion since the US and Israel began bombing Iran on February 28. The Pentagon recently decided to reinforce the operation in the Persian Gulf with 10,000 troops specially trained to capture and fortify positions.
