Areas in northern, eastern and central Tehran are reportedly under attack, and explosions are heard, according to state-run IRIB. The Israeli military also confirms a "broad wave of attacks" against Tehran, according to the AFP news agency.
Hours earlier, Donald Trump responded to a question from reporters at the White House about rising gas prices. He said, “All I have to do is get out of Iran, and we’ll do that very soon, and they (prices) will go down.”
"But we will finish the job, and I think it will be within maybe two weeks, maybe a few more days," he said.
“Learn to fight”
The president also said that the United States will have nothing to do with what happens in the Strait of Hormuz, which is crucial for oil traffic. The responsibility for keeping it open will instead fall on the countries that depend on the strait. There is “no reason for us to do it,” he said.
"It's not for us. It's going to be for France. It's going to be for whoever uses the strait," Trump said.
On Tuesday, the president criticized the country's allies for not supporting the US effort in the war more, writing that the countries must start learning "to fight for yourselves" and now "get your own oil."
And on Monday, Trump claimed that the United States was in serious discussions with “a new and more reasonable regime” in Iran to end the war. But he also wrote that the United States would “blow up and totally obliterate” all of Iran’s energy facilities if a deal was not made soon.
The president has also claimed that regime change has already taken place in Iran.
Speech to the nation
According to the White House, Trump will deliver a speech to the nation about the Iran war Wednesday evening at 9 p.m., which is 3 a.m. Thursday local time in Sweden.
The US and Israel attacked Iran on February 28, triggering the ongoing war. Iran has retaliated against pro-Western targets in a number of countries in the region, and the Iran-backed Houthi movement in Yemen has entered the war.
On Wednesday, Israel reported that a rocket from Yemen had been shot down and that rocket fire from Iran was being dealt with. Air raid sirens are sounding in central parts of Israel and dozens of people have been injured, including an 11-year-old girl.
